I Stand Corrected

Yesterday I posted a lengthy explanation about how to follow a blog on your "Blogger reading list", after not being able to do it the old way.  Today I tried to delete a blog that is no more and it wouldn't let me giving the same old "We're sorry... We were unable to handle your request. Please try again or return a bit later."  So I thought, okay, I will just join Google+.  I did that and it still wouldn't let me delete a blog.

Duh Me here, decided to see what would pop up if I googled "Google Friends Connect".  Check it out.  They are doing away with that too.  I am thinking of removing my Follow icon since it would just be there. It may very well be the beginning of the end of free blogs too.  Just a thought.  I hope I am wrong about this too.  I apologize for wasting everyone's time.  :-[!!!  Do you have any thoughts on this?  :-0

Yepper! I just looked again - and they are forcing everyone to upgrade to google plus - sigh - I'll be looking into it a bit more to determine how to keep our privacy - that info was not available when I wrote my blog post last month. thanks, Shirley.

I do want to make sure to save all my followers the trouble of regrouping - as it means if we remove that blogger friend connect, they may not be able to follow that way anymore. Most people who don't have blogs follow with friend connect.

hugs,
de

All I can say is I totally hate change, I haven't joined the google plus for all that you have to give them, I hate to have anymore info floating out there in internet space than has to be.

I've been right clicking on the url for blogs I want to follow and copy. Then on my blogger home page (if my list comes up) I click on the add and past the url into that box. It comes up in my reading list. I'm not sure if it shows me as following or not.

I hate change too!

I just did a post about this on the weekend, Shirley. So many people are having fits with not being able to follow or not having their photos appear, etc. etc. It's so frustrating. What I posted doesn't work for everyone, either, but it's working for me. I'll have to Google about Friend Connect as you suggested because it sounds like you are saying we won't have ANY way to follow each other in the future? Geesh. That's part of the fun is making friends and following posts to keep current with each other. Thanks for your advice!! Hugs, Darnell

I just read what Donna wrote. I have been suspecting the force to Google + for some time and it irritates the heck out of me. I'm sort of resigned to all my info being out there - I mean they started tracking my purchases at the grocery store for Pete's sake, but I hate that they want access to my Picasa web photos when you sign up to Google +! That's not cool! Hugs, Darnell

Hi Shirley, I haven't been able to join blogs with friend connect recently and I assume anyone trying to follow my blog is having the same trouble. I'm not sure what I'll do, maybe start posting on Facebook or something, I don't know. I have no intention of giving out more information than necessary. Take care, Shirleyx

Shirley, after following perzackly - step by step - Darnell's posted instructions - THAT day I was able to join as a new follower. (I "think" I had been doing the same thing prior, but maybe I just held my mouth right the day Darnell posted! It was good instructions too). Sometimes I can join & see my profile pic, sometimes just the gray head. I can't delete a blog that I no longer follow..I've tried repeatedly. I think you're right about the 'free blogging' going away. Hope we're wrong, but it won't surprise me. I'm with Donna, that one of the fun aspects of blogging at all, is making new friends, and being able to see what the crafter is doing that can inspire you. I won't be posting on FB, because I think that program is pretty much privacy invasive too. I'm sort of wishing I'd never got involved with FB too, but some friends got me onto that one, because of a group we were in at the time. Appreciated the info you've provided here. I think it helps us all to know what is going on.
TFS & Hugs
