Cards of Condolence for Sandy Hook Families

I am sure my heart is not the only one crying for the families in Newtown, CT.  I just can't stop thinking about what happened.  I kept thinking how I could help.  Then I saw 3 ways and they are listed below in case you would want to do any or all of them too.

I. Mail Cards To The Families At A Special USPS PO Box:
The lists of the children's and faculty names:
  1. Charlotte Bacon, 6
  2. Daniel Barden, 7
  3. Rachel D'Avino, 29
  4. Olivia Engel, 6
  5. Josephine Gay, 7
  6. Ana Marquez-Greene, 6
  7. Dylan Hockley, 6
  8. Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, 47
  9. Madeleine Hsu, 6
  10. Catherine Hubbard, 6
  11. Chase Kowalski, 7
  12. Jesse Lewis, 6
  13. James Mattioli, 6
  14. Grace McDonnell, 7
  15. Anne Marie Murphy, 52
  16. Emilie Parker, 6
  17. Jack Pinto, 6
  18. Noah Pozner, 6
  19. Caroline Previdi, 6
  20. Jessica Rekos, 6
  21. Avielle Richman, 6
  22. Lauren Rousseau, 30
  23. Mary Sherlach, 56
  24. Victoria Soto, 27
  25. Benjamin Wheeler, 6
  26. Allison Wyatt, 6
  27. Nancy Lanza, 52
The last name is the mother of the young man who shot them.  She had no idea he would do that, I believe, or she certainly wouldn't have given him access to the guns.  A real testimony of the need for gun regulation and more education and access to mental health services in this country.

Below is the address set up by the USPS to get condolence letters and cards to the families of the above.  I plan to address cards To The Family Of ..........., and then put them in a larger envelope for the post office to separate:
Messages of Condolence for Newtown Families
PO Box 3700
Newtown, CT 06470
II. Winter Wonderland For Children returning to school:
The next project in which the public can take part is to support the children who will be going back to school, on January 12, is by making snowflakes and sending them to the PTA there.  They are planning a Winter Wonderland theme for when they return to school.  You can check it out HERE.  If you need ideas for the snowflakes go HERE.

III.  Request For Review of Gun Laws And Education And Access to Mental Health Services:
At the same time I am going to contact the President, my Representative, and Senators to ask for action on how guns are sold and at the same time review ease of access and education about mental health services.  If you need to find out how to reach them you can join Congress.org.  It is free and they provide the email address, telephone number, etc. of the people representing you, both state and federal.  You can even sign up to be notified of votes to be taken and then of how they voted.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask me.  Thanks for stopping by to look and share.  I know this is a card art blog, but sometimes change is needed and good too. :-)  Bless you all.

Shirley,

I, too, thank you for the information - it's nice to believe there is some small gesture I can make to let these families know that they are not alone in their grief. I, too, appreciate the careful, loving tone of your post - well said! Hugs!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I am so sorry to hear about your loss and I would like to offer you my condolences. I can understand your frustrations and pains in your heart with this world and why we should have hope because I used to feel the same way. But keep in mind that God is always there to keep us going and He will never leave us especially in times like this.
