Techno Stamper Christmas In July Challenge

Wow! To think I finally am doing something on time that I can enter into the Techo Stamper Challenge. Whoopee!

The image is Holly Snowflake by Impression-Obsession. It was stamped with Brilliance Galaxy Gold on Curious Metallic Ice Gold paper and painted with Twinkling H2O's useing a Niji Waterbrush. The embellishments are Glossy Accents on the holly and Mark Richards pink Crystal Sticker Elements in the middle of the image. I scored around the edges using my Scor-It. It was mounted on Stardream Chiara Rose Quartz and then Ice Gold again. (I am not recommending you buy your paper here. This is just where I could find it in one place for the post so you could see what it looks like. I shop for prices before I buy.)  The ribbon is by May Arts. The card front was then mounted on Neenah Paper Classic Solar White Super Smooth Cardstock.

The envelope and inside the card were stamped with Brilliance Galaxy Gold on a portion of the Holly Snowflake, again painted with Twinkling H2O's and accented with Glossy Accents.

The total card is called a "Spring" card and I made some modifications to fit what I wanted to do. I originally saw the card on Splitcoast Stampers in their Resources area. The post below will provide my version of it with my changes noted.

Thank you for stopping by "the blog" to look. I hope you like what you see.

Spring Card My Way Fold (Tutroial)

Supplies used:
Cardstock: 5.25X10.5
Pencil
Ruler
2 sided tape

STEP 1
Lay your cardstock in front of you with the top side up. It was easier for me to have 2 distinctive sides. If your paper is one color you may want to mark Side 1 and Side 2 in pencil and then remove later. My paper is text weight and is 2 layers.

Fold the cardstock from left to right. Smooth center fold crease with bone folder, fingernail, etc.

Open the cardstock.

STEP 2
Fold cardstock from right side to left to center fold crease. Smooth new fold crease.

Open cardstock.

STEP 3
Place cardstock TOP SIDE face down. Bring left hand bottom corner up so that its edge is even with the first fold on the right side as shown. Smooth the crease that is at an angle so it is a sharp crease.

Open the cardstock again.

STEP 4.
Bring left hand top corner down so that its edge is even with the first fold on the right side as shown. Smooth the crease that is at an angle so it is a sharp crease.

Open cardstock again top side down, bottom side up.

STEP 5.
The end with the rectangular fold should be furthest away from you. On the edge closest to you measure with your ruler to the center of the 5.25 end and mark it with a pencil. It should be at about 2 5/8 inches.

Fold the left bottom edge so it is even with the center and lines up with your pencil mark. Crease the new edge. Do the same with the right bottom edge lining it too up with the center and the penciled mark. Now you have 2 distinct triangles.

Open the new folds so you can apply 2 sided tape and then tape them down as shown. This step is different from the original. The original has you cut off the edges. I don't because I used text weight paper to make the card and it adds support to the whole card.

When you turn the cardstock over it should look like the picture on the left.

STEP 6.
This step is extra so the card not only "Springs", but can sit up without falling this way and that. Turn the card so it has the rectangle facing you.
Next add tape to the right, left, and bottom sides of the triangle above it only. Do not tape the rectangle at all. Just the triangle. Bring the triangle down to attach to the rectangular base.

The finished card should look something like the one to the left. All that is left to do is add your cardfront or card, like the one I made that opens.

Okay now. fingers crossed, I am going to post this. I make no promises. I have learned that sometimes even what you have previewed doesn't turn out like you wanted. LOLOL

Butterflies In the Air Everywhere

I saw a blog banner similar to this somewhere and couldn't get it out of my mind. Then I saw the stamp I wanted for it on Impression-Obsession with their new stamps and had to try it.

First I ran half of the white cardstock through the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots embossing folder. The stamp is Butterfly Group by Impression-Obsession and was stamped with Brilliance Galaxy Gold, then painted with Twinkling H2O's. The pearly areas on the butterflies were done using Rangers White Opal Liquid Pearls.

The words, Just A Note, also by Impression-Obsession, were stamped with Brilliance Galaxy Gold on an EK Success punched 1" white circle. Then it was mounted on Curious Metallics Caramel text paper by Arjo Wiggins Company. I used my Magic Matter to draw the edge around the white cardstock on the Caramel paper. I used the same Curious Metallics Caramel cardstock as the frame around the White card front. The pearls are by Mark Richards. The ribbon is from Michaels and I don't remember where I got the faux pearl buckle. I have had it for eons.

(CARDSTOCK TIP - I order TEXT 80 lb. weight in metallic papers whenever possible because I usually end up using them as background papers and text is cheaper and thinner and just as easy to use. In some cases it is easier.) Of course, I also make all of my card fronts separate and mount on either Domtar White, or other cardstocks by Neenah Papers that are 8.5X5.5 folded in half. That way if I screw up a card front it doesn't cost me a whole 8.5X5.5 piece of paper. Most white and off-white cardstock is cheaper than colors, embossed, or metallic, etc.

Thanks for stopping by "the blog" to look, and if you ever have questions, please don't hesitate to ask by emailing me. My email is located in the right side bar of this page.

RAK From Barbara

I received this card from Barbara Riefner in FL this last week. She did the background when she was visiting with me in April this year. It is part of the Dry Embossed Wash technique from the 12/06-01/07 Technique Junkie Newsletter. Why we didn't finish it I don't know, but I am glad because this is so stunning IRL. I hope you can see it too. She embossed the flower with Gold EP and I think used Twinkling H2O's for the colors. I am always excited to get one of Barb's stunning cards. Thank you again Barbara for thinking of me and sharing some more of your great way with stamps and color.

Thanks for stopping by "the blog" to take a look.

Sunflower Weather

I wanted to do a quick little card and this is it! I used Birdhouses by Impression-Obsession and my new Martha Stewart Zig-Zag Punch. The image was painted with Twinkling H2O's. Rangers Stickles Copper glitter glue was used to highlight the nails on the fence (their new Cinnamon would work great too), part of the Zig-Zag design, and the For You by Paper Salon. If you like the stamp, there are other verses that go with it in the new stamps section too. I wasn't quick enough to check that out before ordering. Ha!

By the way, if you didn't catch it already, check out the Martha Stewart Punches, etc. that is be sold by Wal-Mart. Read about it in the posting just before this one and there is a link there too!!

Thanks for stopping by "the blog" to look.

Cards from Stamp Fest in FL

There were several classes offered at the Stamp Fest and the cards below are from the two classes I took.

The first class was given by P K Glitz (formerly known as Powder Keg). There were 3 tables and people moved from one table to the next to do the 3 cards. I have to say I learned some techniques that I am going to try with my glitter within the next few weeks. We used the following materials and tools to complete each glittered area on each card:

1. Sticky paper - It is much thinner than Red Tape and only one side is sticky.

2. Small Plastic Spoons - To spoon small amounts of glitter to an area instead of pouring from jar.
3. Paper Coffee Filters - For each color of glitter to apply and catch brushed left over glitter.

4. Brush - To brush off excess glitter from image.

5. Stencil Images - Darice and Dreamweaver.
This is the only place I could find this Darice stencil online :
http://store.scrapbooking-warehouse.com/223624.html
The above card is done with a Dreamweaver Stencil.

I cannot find who makes the stamp above. If anyone knows, please email me. Thank you in advance. The above is the inside of the card. The image on the right is a Dreamweaver Stencil.
I can honestly say after doing these cards, I do not think I would do any glitter project without the Sticky Paper or something similar. It really makes it quick.

This last card was done Friday Evening at the Make and Take session. Lots of people attended. There were projects by all of the vendors at their individual tables. You worked your way from table to table. I chose this card because I love the stamps of course. I also met Mitra Friant, the owner of Impression-Obsession. She taught the card and then manned her booth on Saturday and Sunday too. Her card was also one the most popular ones that night. She is a bolt of lightning in action and it was very all three days.

The main image is from the NEW clear cling set By the Seaside . She/He was colored with colored pencils. All of the designs that went on the white and yellow cardstock are from the NEW clear cling set Circle Elements #1. This the really great part about this set. When you look at it in the pack, it looks like there is one big stamp with the Large scallops and then the dots in a circle (shown below), etc. are all one stamp. They are not. They are individual so you can choose and ink them with different colors easily. I stamped each design separately and it was super easy to stamp evenly by working from the outside (biggest) inward (smallest). I believe the ribbon is by May Arts and the inks were Adirondack Dye Inkpads. Look at all of the combinations you can make. What a cool set.

I have to say the convention was wonderful and so were all of the people. I ran into several from Technique Junkies, and also people who asked about the group because I had the great pin on that Lisa Somerville made.
There was one spot of humor that I am sure happens at every convention, but I have never noticed it before evidently. I went out in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday to get some water and there must have been around 10 men or more waiting. They were all together in chairs and a couple looked very uncomfortable, others had reading material, and some just looked bored. I thought how wonderful they were to bring their wives and not mind waiting until they returned. Ha! I also saw men inside though looking at and shopping for items just like their wives. Saw several new techniques I hope to try in the next few weeks.
Thanks for stopping by "the blog" to hear about the convention. I will not bore you with what I brought back with me.

Happy Fourth of July RAK's

What a total surprise when I received these two Fourth of July cards. It makes me feel like I should have done cards too.

The card above is from Connie Thorson and her friend, Judy . Connie teaches classes at Stampers' Alley in Mooresville, NC. This picture does not do her card justice at all. The little bear has sparkle on the white areas of his hat and the stars of the flag he is holding. The white portions of the burst also have sparkle. Her flag to the right is wonderful. She has covered it in frosted clear micro beads. They sparkle as you move the card around. Thank you so much Connie and Judy for the cheerful card.

This card was sent by Karen Vandivier, who also teaches classes at the store in Mooresville, NC. She used a Cuttlebug folder for the white background. The navy background behind the flag was stamped with Gold Galaxy and is just the right color for behind the flag. The flag is something else. It is embossed and so are the words she mounted over it. How beautiful, Karen. I love it and thanks for brightening my Fourth of July.

Both of these cards arrived the day before I got back from the Stamp Fest in Kisseemee, FL and were a real treat. If any of you reading this live near the Stampers Alley store, I highly recommend their classes.

Thanks for stopping by "the blog" to share these great cards.
