Mr. Owl Makes A Statement In Triple Dimension

I wanted to find the perfect background for the Ornate Owl by Impression-Obsession designer Leigh Hannan. After searching through my Technique Junkie printed copies of techniques I wanted to try, I found what I think was the perfect one. It's called Triple Dimension from the 02/06 Newsletter. The stamps I used for the background are Lovely Leaves by Stampin' Up. I believe it is retired. You'll have to tell me what you think.

I stamped the owl on white cardstock with Timber Brown Stazon ink. I used the great little bottle tool, Nancy Judd talks about on her blog, filled with Glossy Accents to apply the Art Institute Glitter to the Owl. I pruchased my bottle online. For anyone who is interested you can email me by looking in the right hand column under the Splitcoast Bloggers Club widget. I altered his eyes from the stamp version of half closed to full open. Ranger's Glossy Accents was also used on his eyes after painting them with a Sharpie Brown pen for the pupils and Copic At You Spica Lemon for the irises. The dots on his body and fill-in for his face were done with the Sakura Gelly Roll Bronze Sparkle. Glossy Accents were applied after and gave it a Cloissone effect.

The ribbon is a combination 0f Michaels brand and May Arts. The leaf charm is from AC Moore I think. The paper punch is the Small Oval by Stampin' Up. The word is from the Word Plate I from Rubber Stamp Tapestry. The trim around the word is Rangers Stickles Golden Rod.

Thank you for stopping by.

Bohemian Folderol!!!

Sometimes I just get bored with cards before I finish them or I can't figure out exactly what I should do to finish them. I put them in a box and................you know what comes next, :-) , I know you do. Well below is one of those cards. My name for it is Bohemian Folderal because I like all the colors, but not sure if they all go together, and the layout forever plagued me. I wondered around with this card for over a year. LOLOLOL

The main image is from Stamps Happen. I have no idea where their site went. The stamp was inked with Encore Gold and embossed with Egyptian Gold Embossing Powder; then painted with Twinkling H2O's and highlighted with Rangers Stickles Orange Peel glitter glue. The words are from Words Plate I by Rubber Stamp Tapestry. If you click on the image to see it up close, the swirls from Autumn Leaves Elegant Flouishes can be seen. They were stamped by using Micro Glaze by Judikins and then watercoloring over the stamped area with Twinkling H2O's. To me they look like swirly clouds. :-0 So humor me!! Smiling!

The Lavendar Trellis on the left side is from Cuttlebug's Floral Borders die set. The ribbon is May Arts. The Pearl and flower rhinestone embellishments are from Hero Arts. Thanks for looking.

Thank you for stopping by to look!

Tutorial - TAPED & EMBOSSED EDGES

SUPPLIES:

3/4" Matte Removable Scotch Tape (Blue Plaid)
*This brand tape does not leave residue behind to which Embossing Powder will stick.

Cardstock (CS) to be Edged or Edged/Embossed

Dye Ink Pad (for just inked edges)
OR
Pigment Ink Pad & Embossing Powder (EP) for an Embossed Edges

*(Tip) A Small Flat edge art brush for stray EP if you have touched the CS and the oil from your skin causes it to stick to areas of the CS.

STEP 1.

Remove a piece of tape longer than the edge you are going to do. Place it evenly across the edge of the CS.

Step 2.

Hold the CS down with one hand and apply the ink to the CS direct from the ink pad with the other hand.

Step 3.

When all of the CS edge is covered with ink remove the tape by holding the CS with one hand and pulling the tape up and toward the inked edge. *Tip (If you think the ink is still wet set aside to dry or dry it with your heat gun before going on to the next edge.)

STEP 4.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until you have the edges you want finished.

STEPS1.-3. (WITH PIGMENT INK TO EMBOSS)

Apply tape and ink, and remove tape as you did for dye ink above.

STEP 4. Apply Embossing Powder after the tape is removed. *Tip (Remove any stray EP from areas where you may have touched card with a straight edge art brush.)

*TIP - I have found that heating the area I have just used to edge cards or where I have brayered ink on my work area reduces ink, etc. from getting on my art piece. I either do that or just plain remove the paper I was working on. It greatly reduces messing up your artwork.

Step 5.

Emboss edge and do what you need to finish project.

I chose the plain white cardstock and a finished project to show you can do this with new projects and those you thought were finished, but you decided differently. I either made this too difficult or too simple. I hope the last is what happened. This is my first attempt to show a tutorial through pictures so bear with me. I learn something new almost every time I post. Thanks for stopping by to see "the blog".

A Note On My Last Post About Michaels

I am getting questions, and I think rightfully so, about where I got the site again for the latest coupon. Some have received the emails with the site for the coupon, while others get the email with their latest store ads and that's all.

My friend signed up for the newsletter on the Michael's site just like I did at about the same time. She did get an email with site for the new ad. I got the email with the new ad for the week and no site for the coupon.

I just now went to their site and emailed customer service with a question about why different practices with different people. I was very upfront and told them that their information is all over the Internet and we are all wondering why the difference.

I will let you know when I receive an answer. Hope this will help all of us.

Yooooooo Hoooooo

Yep! I'm up to the Leigh Hannan Impression-Obsession stamps again. This one is called Night Owl. I've had this stamp since last fall and was determined to try it out. I fell in love with the little owl. I used Twinkling H2O's to paint sky, clouds, and leaves. I used dimensional stickers for the owl. He was painted with Copic Spica pens and then used Rangers Glossy Accents to give him some extra dimension. Rangers Glitter Glues, Cinnamon for the berries and Buttercup for the stars, were used.

A TIP for when you would like your main image to have edges of a different color, but don't want to use cardstock for a frame: (First cut the edges to the size or shape you want. Then choose the right Tombow, Sharpie, etc. etc. for the color you need. Use the brush tip of the Tombow or the thick tipped Sharpie. Holding the pen in your right hand with the tip pointed up, and with the paper in your left hand, level to the middle of the tip, run the tip along the edge of the paper.) It didn't take long at all and gives the edge just the right contrast between the blue and yellow backgrounds.

The ribbon is contraband from a Michaels sales bin and the beads are from years back. Buttercup glitter glue was used on the star beads too! Fiskars decorative scissors Celestial (for the corners) and Seagull were used for along the edges. The rhinestones are brown flatbacks that were applied with Glossy Accents.

If you have any questions, please let me know and thanks for stopping by!
